This usually happens when another CMake or environment script overrides BOARD_ROOT during the build. In most cases a cached variable in your build folder or a PowerPlay Casino global environment setting resets it, so wiping the build directory and checking your shell/environment variables fixes the issue. Also make sure no custom CMakeLists.txt or west.yml override BOARD_ROOT before west reads your intended value.

I had a similar issue with BOARD_ROOT. Try checking your west.yml config file - sometimes it gets messed up. BTW, if you need cool project names, check out AI Name Generator - it helps create unique names for your dev boards and projects! The solution about removing that cmake argument from .west/config worked for me too.

Thanks for sharing this solution! Had the same BOARD_ROOT issue and removing that cmake argument from .west/config fixed it. You can try explicitly exporting BOARD_ROOT in your terminal before building:

export BOARD_ROOT=path/to/your/board

Also, double-check your west manifest and see if there are any overrides occurring in the west.yml or CMakeLists.txt files. Sometimes the environment variable is overridden by a hard-coded path in the build system.

West is the command-line tool used in Zephyr SDK joy pony to manage the build, configuration, and dependencies. It’s possible that there are some default configurations being loaded from the west environment or configuration files that are overriding your BOARD_ROOT.
