My ultimate goal is build a dual-mode audio project, which requires Classic Bluetooth Audio + BLe Audio. I have no other questions for now. If there are other questions, I will open a new ticket.

The main issue is getting an open source controller that support it (I do not know of any). If you do find that, then its fine. You should then be able to flash that to the netcore of the nRF5340, and use the LE Audio app on the appcore.

That would be more complex as the app is already using HCI for this communication. I believe this could be possible but it sounds a lot more complex than using the netcore of the 53.

Another thing to note is that getting an open source controller for this would make it hard with regards to Bluetooth qualification, though as you are planning on modifying it I assume that is not a big concern for you.

My idea is it feasible to use a 5340 audio DK (leaudio app) to connect a custom board (a controller that supports Le audio ) with uart. A factor to confirm is that the HCI interaction is standardized. My English not well.

If you can find an open source controller that supports LE audio you mean? I am not sure what you mean by other board.

If your goal was finding another LE audio controller to modify, then you're already at your goal if you've found one.

Essentially, there are 3 controllers to choose from: our softdevice controller for BLE, the open source zephyr controller for BLE, and our closed source LE Audio controller.

The zephyr controller doesn't support LE Audio. So no, I don't think it will work unfortunately.

I want to use zephyr controller, do you think it is feasible?, one 5340audio dk as host, one 5340audio dk as controller, they use hci_uart to communicate.

Then you'll have a hard time adding functionality to the controller - it is all closed source.

Though if you could expand on what functionality you would like to add I can check if this is something it can be configured to do.

If your goal is to get an open source LE audio demo working, then no I don't think that would work. This isn't just some unfortunate limitation placed on you by the SDK that you need to circumvent. You need a functioning LE Audio controller in order for the Audio application to work. The Bluetooth controller (either our softdevice controller or the zephyr one) does not include the same functionality as the LE Audio Controller.

Thanks, first, when i use CONFIG_BT_LL_SW_SPLIT=y,prj.conf have err.(use nrf5340_audio_dk_nrf5340_cpunet)

CONFIG_BT_LL_SW_SPLIT was assigned the value y, but got the value n. Missing dependencies:
<choice BT_LL_CHOICE>
Software-based BLE Link Layer \EXPERIMENTAL\

Type: bool

Value: n

Use Zephyr software BLE Link Layer ULL LLL split implementation.

My purpose is to have an open source solution and separate host and controller.

Now, i thought of a plan:flash the hci_xx(zephyr/samples/bluetooth/xx) to appcore(use nrf5340_audio_dk_nrf5340_cpuapp),

then, connect to host(use nrf5340_audio_dk_nrf5340_cpuapp) with usb(hci_usb) or uart(hci_uart).

I have successfully run a simple ble demo,do you think this will work in 5340audio DK?

Hello Reskyllr,

First of all, I think it should be possible to use the Zephyr controller by using the configuration CONFIG_BT_LL_SW_SPLIT. So when you say it does not work when enabling CONFIG_BT_LL_SW_SPLIT that seems odd to me.

In a way the answer is no, as our LE Audio controller is a separate binary for now. It is limited how much it can be configured too. There could theoretically be an open source audio controller in Zephyr which you could combine with our application, though there currently isn't any.

What are you trying to modify on the controller?
