In Keil under Project -> Options for target -> 'Asm' tab, at the bottom of the dialog, you can see the assembler control string

The --pd command is for predefine:

www.keil.com/.../armasm_dom1361289839860.htm

You can read more about predefine here:

www.keil.com/.../armasm_dom1361289840200.htm

Perhaps the device name changed slightly since when the project was originally made? You can probably remove the predefine and resolve the assembler error.

My OS is win8 professional and only old SDK nrf518_sdk_v1_1_0_16424.msi can work well. Newer SDK, nRF51 SDK_v4.2.0.25053, can be installed, but it can't work due to the above CLR error. MDK 4.71 will always complain if nordic nrf51xxx is selected. The compiler option will be "-device", but it should be "-cpu Cortex-M0". New SDK, nrf51_sdk_v4_4_0_30888.msi, can't be installed on my Win8, because the CLR error, too.

nrf51.cdb and .flm are installed to C:\ARM, and C:\UV4, but these folders are not the KEIL folders, so MDK can't find the device data base and flash algorithm. If you don't have the flash algorithm and device database mentioned in the comment above, something has gone wrong with the SDK installation. Please try to do a complete re-install of the SDK (i.e. first uninstall it and then install from the MSI again). When you reinstall, it would be useful if you could run it with logging enabled, by running the installer from the command line like this:


nrf51_sdk_v4_3_0_27417.msi /log log.txt

If you after this still don't have the files mentioned above, can you please send me this log file in a private message?

OK, but I answer the questions as below because I really missing some files！Thank you very musc.

Also, is the error the same with all example projects in the SDK?

Actually, all example works fine on SDK. The problem occur on Keil. I was able to compile the code on Keil, but I can not load image file. I need load image on SDK and program it.

Do you have a nrf51.cdb in C:\Keil\UV4?

No! Maybe it's problem ? Something I miss download ?

Do you have nrf51xxx.flm in C:\Keil\ARM\Flash?

If you still have problems, can you please try to zip up the complete project you're trying to use, and upload it here? Also, is the error the same with all example projects in the SDK? Do you have a nrf51.cdb in C:\Keil\UV4? Do you have nrf51xxx.flm in C:\Keil\ARM\Flash?

I noticed in the device selection in keil, when you select Nordic Semiconductor it says:

To select any device from this series, please use the Device Database installed with the nRF51 Software Development Kit. The nRF51 Software Development Kit can be downloaded fromwww.nordicsemi.com.

I can't find a device database in the SDK installation. Huh?

Yes, you can skip this line if using a newer version of Keil. When you go into "J-Link / J-Trace Cortex" settings, you can see which version of the dll is being used. Can you verify the version number? Should be 4.72.

I find a workaround, the Keil IDE just can not load flash image but it still can compile it. So I compile flash on Keil but load it on nRF51822 studio.

I still don't know what happen and this workaround will cause some debug obstacles. I simple introduce compile and load flash image working flow:

Plug nRF51822 to USB port
Open Keil IDE

The settings you have are not correct.

What version of the SDK are you using?
What version of the SoftDevice are you using?

Normally, you will also have a copy of the SDK at this location: C:\Nordic Semiconductor\nRF51 SDK_ You can check quickly what version you have here.
