It's perfectly fine to ask questions about this device on the forum here. After all, it does contain a Nordic IC. I just wanted to clarify that the dongle was not made by us and it may come pre-programmed with a different bootloader that does not support programming through our Programmer app in nRF Connect for desktop.

As Kenneth pointed out, this is a third-party dongle. The method of programming this dongle depends on the type of bootloader it came pre-programmed with. Please refer to this page for more details: https://wiki.makerdiary.com/nrf52840-mdk-usb-dongle/programming/

Thanks a lot Kenneth. I had tried those steps and maybe I just misunderstood the lights. I do se a couple of red light blinks. However, when I select the device, I see this in my log: "Error when fetching device versions: No matching plugin found for operations to execute (Origin: "Error when starting operation: mcu-state-set"). I thought it had to do with boot mode, but maybe it's a completely different problem?

Edit: That said though, your picture does not look like our nRF52840 USB dongle:

So likely none of this will work if they have not copied our dongle exact with pre-programmed bootloader.

I do however strongly recommend to get an nRF52840-DK for development, since that have access to more gpios, leds, and not to mention proper programming and debugging over SWD.
