Then it would be better to disconnect entirely and go to system OFF mode instead of using TWT indeed I believe. The initial connection to a network will indeed take a few seconds, but using "wifi connect <SSID> <channel number>" should reduce the connection time to a known network and channel significantly. Unfortunately there isn't currently a way to reduce the initial connection time very much at the time being as far as I know.

Our device will be on battery. Even 600 s is not enough for the consumption goal. We will need at least 1h.

Is there a way to disconnect the wifi (and power off the 7200), and connect to wifi only when needed but without the scan part at connection (like a fast connect)?

I tried with wifi shell sample, and when I enter wifi connect (giving the exact channel), There is a long (7s) delay at 60 mA the first time. If I disconnect and connect again, it is faster.

So, this will be an issue with multiple APs, since most APs will give a deauth if you don't send traffic after setting up the TWT. The AP is listening up to the inactivity timeout and if there's no traffic from the station during the inactivity time period. By setting the interval to 600 seconds (10 minutes), almost all APs will time out and trig a deauth before the device wakes up the first time, so we would strongly recommend the sleep interval to be much lower (60 seconds for example) and for the nRF7002 to do some data transfers every now and then to not be deauthenticated by the AP.

With the .hex we provided, did you try doing Pings/TCP connects with this, and did you still see the same issues? In general, with lower intervals TWT will work as expected, but since most APs don't support very high sleep intervals, there will likely be issues with multiple minutes of sleep intervals.

Unfortunately I'm not aware of any APs that supports as much as 600 seconds of sleep intervals, so on that end you're on your own. But at a 1 minute interval your application should be able to work as expected both on the AP you're using and I.E. an ASUS RT-AX3000 AP.

From the sniffer trace this looks to be an AP issue for the following reasons:

The TWT session is initiated with 600 seconds of sleep.
The DK wakes up at the 600th second and schedule the uplink "QOS null" as per protocol.
For some reason the AP seems to send a deauthentication message to the DK.

The AP is trying to send frames after ~300 seconds even though a DK is in TWT power save, which the DK isn't able to receive. If we look at frames 6781-6938 we can see a "TIM" for the DK in all beacons. You can add the following filter to capture these frames:

(wlan.addr == f4:ce:36:00:20:d2) || (wlan.tim.partial_virtual_bitmap != 00)

So it seems like an interoperability issue with this specific AP to us. Can you try another AP for your application (we would recommend an ASUS AP, as we've had a good success rate with them) to see if that works better.

I disabled GTK/Group rekeying on the ap.

Tried with wifi_shell you provided to me with this parameters:

wifi twt setup 0 0 1 1 0 0 1 1 65000 600000000

Not working: device is disconnected.

Sorry about the late reply. From our side, it looks like the fix to send QoS NULL frames during TWT SP is helping, as we're now able to stay connected for ~2500 seconds. Is the GTK/Group rekeying disabled in your access point? Typically this is set to 1 hour. This doesn't work with TWT (AP/protocol limitation), so if you haven't done that please try, as it should be supported in the AP's web UI. If possible, please collect sniffer data so we can get a better look at what's happening on-air and maybe see some pattern before this de-authentication.

We're not seeing this same issue with a Netgear AP: AX1800 WIFI Router RAX10 and FW Version V1.0.3.92 on our end, so it's hard to provide any further support from our end, but I've shared your details with the devs and I'm waiting for any other ideas from them.

It is not working.

Deauthentication is received from ap after a while (2519 seconds). Then the device is reconnected, and TWT is not activated anymore.

Sorry about the late reply, but Kenneth is out of office. Due to the summer vacation period we are currently understaffed, so delayed replies must be expected.

With the .hex file, you should flash it onto you DK, and run the application while logging. It will send QoS NULLs instead of Ps-Polls with the same TWT params. We're not seeing these deauthentications this way on our end.

Also, can you test with attached hex file. This will send QoS Nulls instead of Ps-Polls with same twt params i.e 1min sleep and trigger disable - announced mode.

Can you try to lower sleep periods. There could be some interop issue. Please try 10 seconds sleep and see if there is any improvement.

Ok still getting deauth, can we get sniffer capture if possible? Also can we confirm is it trigger disabled and announced mode. Though above cmd meant to be trigger disabled some times AP may alter the twt params in response to the twt setup.

I configured twt with:

After several minutes, I enter:

wifi twt teardown_all

and the answer is:

Hi,

In trigger disable and unannounced mode, DK will not send any QoSNull/PS-Polls to inform our awake state. So, AP will deauth since there is no exchange between AP and DK for 15mins (If MAX_BSS_IDLE_PERIOD is less than 15mins in AP). We can do same test with latest NCS main with trigger disable and announced mode(wifi twt setup 0 0 1 1 0 0 1 1 65000 524000), in this case DK will send PS-Polls for every twt interval.

Another example that is still not working.

I configure TWT with those parameters:

TWT wake interval: 39936 us => asked 40ms
TWT interval: 60030000 us => asked 1 minute

I wait for 15 minutes (I can see power consumption on 7200 each minute), then I unset twt and try to send an udp packet => I receive a disconnect notification, and the packet is not sent.

In trigger enabled mode, Station expects AP to schedule Trigger frames to Station for uplink frames. This is not widely supported as of now.
