I have problems to setup my application when a custom board is used.

I performed the following steps:

install NCS 2.4.0 trough Toolchain Manager in Windows 10 at c:\ncs\ according to https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK

RE: ncs-example-application not compatible with Windows NCS installation

I try to understand how to set up projects right using the west.yml.

We were not using this file before, just set up the workspace by git clone, loaded zephyr via git and builded the project. This worked, but as I learned this is no a good way to do so.

My goal is to set up a workspace where I can:

develop in Windows on VS Code easily (which means for me an central SDK at a certain place, not to get it every time via 'west init')

integrate this into CI

Custom boards

Custom devicetree bindings

Out-of-tree drivers

Out-of-tree libraries

I'll have a look at the course, thanks.

RE: ncs-example-application not compatible with Windows NCS installation

Hello Mathias,

Is there a reason for why you want to use this particular application?
try to install example application github.com/.../quote]

Looking at the documentation of this sample, this is a stand-alone example which will clone the main branch of the nRF Connect SDK (NCS). You run this command to install NCS manually, as per Get the nRF Connect SDK code documentation. You will need to initialize in a folder that does not already have NCS initialized e.g. C:\nRFConnectSDK. Note that you need to have all tools correctly installed, as per the statement: "Before getting started, make sure you have a proper nRF Connect SDK development environment.". Please see the Installing Manually section.

This automatically handled for you when installing via Toolchain Manager, which includes everything except VS Code.

If you are new to NCS I suggest having a look at our Developer Academy which includes a nRF Connect SDK Fundamentals course.

Kind regards,
Øyvind
