Following the answer in this ticket , I don't understand how a central running Zephyr will be able to support the thousands of devices described in the electronic shelf lable (ESL) in the 5.4 specification.
Wouldn't this require the central to bond

RE: Upper limit on number of devices I can bond with using Zephyr

Hi,
in relation to the maximum number of possible bluetooth bonds, we have a walkaround available.
https://github.com/NordicPlayground/nrf-esl-bluetooth/tree/main
In this implementation, it is possible to offload as many keys as needed to external flash or external host

Yes, the Zephyr controller has an upper limit and would not be very well suited for this profile. Our SoftDevice Controller however is only limited by the memory capabilities of the HW used. Our current largest SoCs have 1MB of available flash (nRF52840 and nRF5340), and since one bond will take ~80 bytes, you will get room for more with this controller. Additionally you can store bonding data on an external flash using QSPI and the execute in place (XIP) feature.

Since the ESL profile is not yet released in the nRF Connect SDK, this might change though, and you can contact the regional sales manager (RSM) of your area for more information on when this might be available. Please let me know if you need help reaching out to the RSM where you are.

Best regards,
Simon
