I can confirmed that since today it has been fixed. Now clicking the same link open up a different window:

As you can see it no longer requests me to type in current password. It would be interesting to know what was the reason.

There is no such option unless you are talking about this:

After clicking this I get an email that contains a link to change password.

In order to change the password you need to know "Current Password" as I have shown in my initial post.

Have you tried resetting your password yourself? Can you show me the window that opens up when you click a link in the email that you get when submitting a password reset

When you try to login, could you try the option "Forgot password" so that you can set a new one?
