I'm afraid that we won't be able to provide much further help since it's the custom bootloader made by your company. To be able to provide further help , we would request you to get familiar with the bootloader and can step into the bootloader to provide us debug information that you have.

Hi Oguzhan,
I don't have much insight on your custom bootloader. You may want to check what's the bootloader based on, was it based on the BLE bootloader and ported to UART bootloader or it's ported from SDK v13.

Have the bootloader worked before ?

In Sdk 12.3, you said we do not support uart dfu bootloader.Now i am trying the flashing our bootloader program and i show new error message TypeError: __init__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'dfu_version'

Hi Oguzhan,

Did you solve the problem ?
If you have your own custom bootloader, you may want to try debugging to see if there is anything send from PC on UART and check why it doesn't work. The error on PC showing that the bootloader didn't respond.

Could you point me to the bootloader you used ?

In SDK v12.3 we don't have UART DFU bootloader supported. It's only added in SDK v13 and later.

Hi Oguzhan,

Ok, then let's keep the custom board out of the picture. Let's focus only on how to do DFU update the PCA10028.

If you are using SDK v12.3, I'm not so sure why you use nrfutil v0.3.0 . As far as I remember it's very old nrfutil and only compatible with non-secure DFU from SDK v11.x and earlier.

For the secure bootloader in SDK v12.3 could you try version 6.x https://github.com/NordicSemiconductor/pc-nrfutil/tree/v6.1.7

Or if you use the latest version (7.x) you would need to install "nrf5sdk-tools" to be able to use it for the bootloader in SDK v12.3.

We want our users to be able to send programs over the UART using the cp2102 so that they can make software updates while in the field.

we use a bootloader for this.

after installing softdevice and bootloader, I also tried that we wrote the bootloader nordicin default bootloader ourselves, but I always got a no ping response error.

Then I am not so sure I understand what you want to achieve.

If you simply want to flash your application on your custom board, then you can just use a SWD programmer to do programming. You don't need to do DFU to program.

If you don't have a SWD programmer (Jlink for example) you can use the nRF51 Dev Kit as the programmer, but you need to connect the debug out port to the SWD interface on your custom board.

DFU is not for this purpose.

Could you let me know which SDK you are using ?
Please clarify your steps , what did you flash on the nRF51 Dev Kit ?
I assume you are trying to do DFU the nRF51 on the Dev Kit not the nRF51 on the custom board, correct ?

So you find COM8 appears when you plug the development kit in ?
You can do nrfjprog --com to see the list of COM port that created by the DK.

Could you let me know which SDK you are using ?

Please try testing with the UART example to make sure you can communicate with PC via COM8.

When you test please make sure you do a "nrfjprog.exe --eraseall" to erase the whole chip before testing. Please list step by step what you do, start with erasing the whole chip.

The bootloader is written by our engineer. I will reply you after triying the default nordic's bootloader.

And don't miss the detail. I am using python 2.7.18 and nrfutil 0.3.0

Hi,

If you look at the error log you can find this:

"No ping response after opening COM port"

This mean the bootloader may not be running or the UART communication does not work.

Could you tell a little bit more about " the bootloader that is written by our company" ?

Have you tried to test the same with our bootloader in nRF5 SDK v12.3 ?

I have a guide here that you may want to take a look.

You may also want to make sure the baudrate is correct (the bootloader is configured to use that baudrate) and that you can communicate with PC via that COM port (test with UART example)
