Before I start, I think it is important to emphasize that I use the ZEPHYR stack, not the NRF. Thus the path in the hidden ".west"-file points to "ncs/v2.3.0/zephyr" rather

RE: central and peripheral combined: Notifications stop working after reconnect

Hi!

How many connections do you actually need?

Also, depending on what you are actually trying to achieve here, you could also consider Bluetooth PAwR or some mesh technology
Here are some links on PAwR if that is new for you:
What's new in Bluetooth v5.4: An overview

https://www.bluetooth.com/bluetooth-resources/new-bluetooth-technology-periodic-advertising-with-response-will-bring-digital-benefits-to-physical-stores/

We don't recommend using the Zephyr Bluetooth LE Controller, but it's possible to enable that in nRF Connect SDK: https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/protocols/ble/index.html#usage-in-samples , but I recommend that you consider other options first.

I recommend using the nRF Connect SDK when working with our devices. Based on what you have explained here, I don't see any reason for why you would need to use vanilla Zephyr, instead of nRF Connect SDK.

RE: central and peripheral combined: Notifications stop working after reconnect

The central_and_peripheral_hr relay example works.

I can connect, disconnect and connect again and register successfully to receive notifications. They arrive as expected.

The problem for me is that I need over 20 simultaneous BLE connections and my application is therefore written against Zephyr, and hence it uses Zephyr's USB stack for example and more Zephyr specific code.

If there is some way to cross the 20 connections limit, that would be a reason to invest time to completely port my code to NRF. But of course I much prefer this bug in the Zephyr BLE stack to be solved.

RE: central and peripheral combined: Notifications stop working after reconnect

Hello

Sounds like you should have a look at how this sample does things if you haven't:
