I just found one more reason this can happen. Windows puts this silly empty file in "C:\Users\clovett.REDMOND\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\python.exe" which is used to bootstsrap and install python. Even if you never use this it puts this ahead of your ~ncs\toolchains\c57af46cb7\opt\bin\python.exe and that causes everything to break. Delete the windows stub and everything starts working properly.

It works now. I have removed everything VS Code and nRF related in the Appdata directory.

Yes. I have reinstalled VS Code, the whole nRF tools and I deleted the .vscode folder before reinstalling everything.

Did you also re-install vscode and delete the folders I specified while uninstalled?

Hi,

Seems the problem is the installation of vs code or exentsions. Can you uninstall and re-install everything to see if that fixes it. You can also delete the C:\Users\<username>\.vscode and see if that helps.

Edit: Updating west through the console out of the toolchain manager does work.

Hi,

We believe the problem is related to missing folder(s) during installation of nRF Connect SDK.

We are not able to reproduce your problem in specific, but with the right SDK installation selected in the VS Code welcome screen, you can try running the "nRF Connect: West Update" command (find it by pressing F1 or Ctrl+Shift+P) to fix it, then restart VS Code.

I have restarted the system and use the nRF Toolchain Manager to start VS Code, but the issue still exists.

Can you try to do a restart, I have seen odd problems if there are multiple windows of vs code open and sometimes a restart is required.

Also it's possible to click on the nRF connect for VS code extention in VS code and Extention settings (see gear icon) to check if some of the configuration looks wrong.

yes I did that. The toolchain manager has also installed one missing plugin for VS Code, but the problem still exists.

Did you install nRF Connect SDK through the toolchain manager and start VS code from the toolchain manager (which will also check that all plug-ins are installed): https://developer.nordicsemi.com/nRF_Connect_SDK/doc/latest/nrf/installation/assistant.html
