It would help in your debugging if you compare the air sniffer log of working B;D350 with the sniffer log of your BLE app on nRF52832. We might be able to narrow down the reasons for this issue then.

I forgot to mention that eventually the pairing times out and I get a pairing_failed callback with the reason specified as BT_SECURITY_ERR_UNSPECIFIED.
