I see this is very old question, but it was first google hit once i get into same problem. Solution in my case was adding

CONFIG_BT_AUTO_PHY_UPDATE=n

which I got from Fast pair input device sample application is not working as expected on my nrf52840 dk

Hello Kenneth. Thank you for the response. I will check the thread to see if there was a proposed solution. What is weird is that I am able to get Lesson 5 Exercise 1 and 2 to work using the same phone. That leads me to think that it may be something to do with the setup of the code in Lesson 4 exercise 1 ,2 and 3. I will see if I can examine the proj.conf files to see if that is what is the issue.
