Hi Yuma,

Link security is required when a message needs to go through another node to reach its destination. The only time link security is allowed to be disabled is when there is a direct link between the transmitter and destination and the destination node allows unsecured messages.

I tested with disable linksecurity and I have confirmed that we can successfully receive UDP messages addressed to ff04::3:0.
Thank you for your support.

However, there are two things I don't understand, so please let me know.

1. What effect does the linksecurity setting have?
2. When linksecurity is set to enabled, it is not possible to receive data unless the thread is inactive. Is this the expected behavior?

Hello Yuma,

I have two possible explanations:

The link security needs to be enabled to receive messages. Either refrain from executing the linksecurity disable command or execute linksecurity enable before sending a message from the transmitter.

The receiver needs to be in the neighbor table of the transmitting node to be able to receive on the link-local multicast address. Add the receiver to the neighbor table of the transmitter to test this.

Let me know if either solution fixes your issue.

I am not sure if it should be possible to receive UDP packets when Thread is running, but I will research to find out.

After my initial search, I wonder if you have to bind to the multicast address ff02::1 to be able to receive the UDP messages while Thread is running.

Please tell med which nRF Connect SDK version you are using. I can try to reproduce and search for a solution/explanation.
