Yes that's essentially what I have been doing although looking there in a little more detail now. I'm gradually working towards a complete project.

Could you elaborate on this? How are you verifying that it points to the internal flash, and how have you changed your devicetree and kconfigs?
Could you also elaborate on what you mean when you say that it fails to write and read all together?

The external FLASH examples in the SDK that is compatible with the Thingy:53 or the nRF5340 DK (with some changes to the devicetree overlay) should be exactly what you are looking for.
Are these the instructions you have been following when trying to make the littlefs sample work with the Thingy:53?

What typically fails is that after changing the device tree and Kconfigs its still pointing to interna flash instead of the external flash chip. Or it fails to write and read flash altogether. That's what I'm asking for is an example of the external flash writing and reading. I haven't been able to make an example myself as of yet and am hoping someone can proved the complete project for the Thingy 53 and its external flash chip the MX25R6435F

Could you elaborate what it is that fails when you attempt this?
We do not have an example for working with the external flash on the Thingy:53 specifically, but all the examples that are compatible with the nRF5340 and Thingy:53 will run on the Thingy:53 (examples made for nRF5340 will need some adjustments to the decivetree so that every pin is routed as on the Thingy:53).
