Yes, those are the same.

Wi-Fi direct is commonly known as Wi-Fi P2P.

While the nRF7002 is capable of such functionality, the wi-fi direct mode is unfortunately not implemented yet. The overview of supported feature (with nRF host controllers) can be seen in this table here:
