 I want to use the NRF51-DK to program an external device. It worked fine so far using the J-Link Firmware. I had to switch to mbed since it is a huge mess to get it to work under Mac.

What is the external device and how are the DK and the device connected? If you cut SB9 you are removing power to the chip on the DK. I think the problem is that you are not recognizing the other chip. Are you sure the other chip has power?
