The problem that I hit is that all the necessary options in the programmer remain grayed out and can't be selected. The log shows:

I believe you tried with the Bluetooth part in the original test. The memory map is different between the DK and the Dongle so the files can't be swapped.

RE: nrfconnect-4.2.1-x86_64.appimage

Hi, A colleague just saw a tiny detail. Try to flash using the nrf802154_sniffer_dongle.hex instead of the one of the development kit. That should do the trick

Regards

Runar

RE: nrfconnect-4.2.1-x86_64.appimage

Here is a screenshot showing that the device is selected and the hex file appears to be accepted. But all the buttons to do anything, like "Erase all", are grayed out and can't be used.

Listing the USB devices shows:

Bus 001 Device 019: ID 1915:521f Nordic Semiconductor ASA Open DFU Bootloader

Does that mean that it's in bootloader mode? If not, how can I tell? How can I change the mode?

Are you sure that the version of the J-link which it says is "provided" is not in the appimage? As Appimage say:

"The key idea of the AppImage format is one app = one file. Every AppImage contains an app and all the files the app needs to run. In other words, each AppImage has no dependencies other than what is included in the targeted base operating system(s)."

There is not much guidance here if you are going against a basic principle of how everybody does something.

Yours

Also, when you try to flash the dongle, is it in bootloader mode?

The newer version of Segger j-link should not be a problem, but I would normally recommend to use version of J-link mentioned in the warning since we might not have tested our tools for all versions of J-link
