Could it at least be possible to re-license the HW codec configuration files (under the src/driver folder) to apache2 - then I would be allowed to do the work of generalizing them and using them in a sample to upstream to zephyr. The issue is the detailed configuration. That fits with the audio dk - combined with the files being under the Nordic license, which is not compatible with upstream zephyr. Without the HW codec support, the value of the nRF5340 Audio DK drops drastically (then it "just" has a subset of the features as a standard nRF5340 DK).

We do not have plans to upstream as of now. Some of the files are quite application specific, so we do not have anything for now. 🙂

The drivers are in a module (apache2, separate west module, I can fetch myself). The files in question in this thread are the configuration/initialization source files residing in the nrf sdk under the source for the nrf5340 audio app. Those are Nordic licensed and Nordic can upstream and relicense to zephyrproject under apache2 :)

I don't think we have any plans for now because most of the HW drivers for the CS47L63 are taken directly from Cirrus' Github repo and there's nothing much we can do there, but I will just verify internally too.

The base driver is available in a Zephyr module from your (nordicsemi) GitHub account (but also, could be fetched, modified and upstreamed to zephyrproject from the cirrus logic original). What I need is the files I linked to from nrf sdk, containing all the configuration and initialization of the HW codec chip on the nRF5340 Audio DK - but upstreamed to zephyrproject under apache2 license by you (Nordic). If you do, it would enable people to use the audio jacks and microphone on the nRF5340 Audio DK using zephyrproject, where the board files are already present.
