I work at a test lab and we have used various iterations of nRF Go & nRF Connect for testing Nordic BLE Devices.
We have a work desktop which had a recent copy of nRF Connect and the DTM build. It has been working perfectly for months, and we

RE: nRF Connect / DTM Installer Not Working

Hello,

Thank you for the update - I have relayed this additional information to the developers to take a look at. They too suspect that something likely went awry during the installation of the nRF Connect itself.
In the past I have heard from customers that their corporate firewalls or security settings have stopped parts of the installation (a silent failure) of the SDK, but I have not heard of this being a problem for the nRF Connect application itself before.

Best regards,
Karl

RE: nRF Connect / DTM Installer Not Working

Hi Karl,

We were able to open the NRF Connect Toolchain, but when we went to run any other applications like the Bluetooth application we received a similar dependency not found error. It was a different noted dependency depending on the application. Similarly, if we tried an earlier version of the application they also had dependency errors.

In all cases, the noted dependencies were present on the computer in the exact location. We really do not have a good explanation either as to why installing Node.JS and Chocolately fixed this... We've used the tool for some time across various PCs without any issues and after this update, the dependencies were broken across the tool. I am wondering if this is more about the Installer and less about the end applications?

(We have a some experience writing software and have a good sense of these things as an outside user, and I don't have a good explanation either. I would really try a completely stock Windows 10 PC and see if this is reproducible.).

RE: nRF Connect / DTM Installer Not Working

Hello again,

I have discussed this with some engineers on the DTM application team, and they found the report strange since the DTM application does not have any dependencies on neither chocolatey nor Node.
When this issue still was present, were you able to open other applications such as Toolchain Manager, or the Bluetooth application?

Best regards,
Karl

RE: nRF Connect / DTM Installer Not Working

Hello,

Thank you for the detailed report.
I don't know the exact version we had before, but I think it was 3.9.1 nRF Connect binary package and then we tried to update to 4.2.1 and starting having the dependency error on the the lab computer. The lab computer had no dev. tools ever installed and started throwing errors.

The lab computer is a very low cost / budget PC ($150 SSD desktop) that is basically a MS Word / Browser + UART testing tools so it is basically stock Windows 10.

On some other work computers (which have dev. tools), we did not have any errors updating NRF Connect so we were a bit puzzled as well.... All I know is once we manually installed NodeJs + Chocolately the DTM started working on the lab computer and the dependency issue was fixed.

The dependency is actually with Chocolately as we tried to load the DTM tool after NodeJS and it failed, but after Chocolately installed the DTM worked....

We did a complete reset on the lab PC (new Windows Registry, etc), and still had the dependency issue after a clean wipe to stock Windows 10.

I would suggest having the dev. team get a clean Windows 10 system without any dev. tools and trying an install. We have the luxury of being able to wipe the lab comptuer since it is basically used for nothing but running test software, but we even ordered a 2nd one and it also had the same failure, so I do not think it is hardware specific to us.

RE: nRF Connect / DTM Installer Not Working

Hello,

I am glad to read that you were able to identify and resolve the root cause of your issue, but I am also surprised to hear that you had to install Node and Chocolaty manually to resolve this.
I will report this to the DTM extension team so that they might take a look to examine the reason for this.

Just to be explicit, did you already have the nRF Connect SDK (which version?) prior to your unsuccessful attempts to install the DTM extension?

Best regards,
Karl

RE: nRF Connect / DTM Installer Not Working

We have the lab computer working again... We installed Node (https://nodejs.org/dist/v20.9.0/node-v20.9.0-x64.msi); and installed Chocolately, and immediately all dependencies were found.... I don't know specifically what has changed, but is there a requirement to have the Node runtime installed to run NRF Connect (on the same system, we never intentionally installed Node or Python, and previous worked fine).

RE: nRF Connect / DTM Installer Not Working

Here is an older PC where the software is working:
