I would like to use the nrf52840 chips as the microcontroller in a strain gauge reader device but I wouldn't have any way to program it.
Does the DK come with any of the segger cords or items?
You don't get any cords with the DK. Though there is a programmer on it, that can be used to program other boards as well. I assume using that and maybe the SWD interface might be the cheapest option for you. Altenatively you can get a 10 pin JTAG SWD connector on your board and simply use a 10 pin cable to program, that would probably be the easiest to work with later on.

For more info on this option you can see here or search around on DevZone. There are a few cases about it.

Regards,
