Yes, I tested with the ble_app_hrs and ble_app_gls samples as is, but haven't made any changes to the sample on my end. I made sure I paired and bonded with the device, but did not make any changes to the characteristics/services like you say you have. And I don't know what this Chrome tool requires for these boxes to be checked, so I don't have any good ideas I'm afraid.

Do you see any error messages when trying to debug this on the nRF side?

Okay, that makes things harder I guess. Can you please confirm that you did indeed bond the device to the computer before checking the characteristics? The Bluetooth LE spec requires devices to be bonded before they can successfully support encrypted transmissions to read/write characteristics.

Do you see any error messages when trying to debug this on the nRF side? I would assume you get a "GATT_INSUFFICIENT_ENCRYPTION" error for example when trying to read encrypted characteristics if the device isn't bonded or encryption isn't set correctly.

I'm seeing the same on my end as well, so I'm not sure what the chrome://bluetooth-internals tool requires for these boxes to be checked I'm afraid. Have you contacted Chrome/Google support regarding this, as I've gotten no response internally regarding this tool. We're not too familiar with it unfortunately.

I use nRF SDK17.1.0, use nRF5_SDK_17.1.0_ddde560\examples\ble_peripheral\ble_app_gls\ to make modifications, and modify the following content:

When connecting the device through the "chrome://bluetooth-internals" tool, the characteristics of BLE_UUID_GLUCOSE_FEATURE_CHAR (0x2A51) do not show that Read Encrypted and Write Encrypted are supported.

I'm sorry, but no we don't have any updates for you as of yet. What SDK version exactly are you using for development on your end? You did bond to the device you're trying to read/write encrypted characteristics from, right?

I'll ask the Windows developers internally if they know what is necessary to check these boxes, but I can't guarantee that they know, so I'd recommend reaching out to Google/Chrome support to ask what security mode/level is required to do so.

I also see that you only link to the encryption mode of the connection though. Have you also checked out the characteristic security modes with read/write permissions, like &cccd_md.read_perm and cccd_md.write_perm?

I'm not familiar at all with Chrome's Bluetooth internals tool, so I'm not 100% sure what toggles these read and write encrypted boxes, but I'd assume it's something like the encrypted mode for characteristic read/write permissions that must be toggled. Please check out this ticket for how to set up characteristics in secure mode. I think you also need to add secure bonding like what is done in the ble_app_gls example for instance to make sure you have an encrypted connection and the devices are bonded.
