Hi,

The limitation for using bash does not come from NCS but from the NCS Toolchain which tries to sandbox the users within their shell and this sandboxing only supports bash.

This still seems to be an issue. I have the same problem on Fedora Linux 40 with /bin/tcsh as my default shell.

Changing the default shell to /bin/bash worked around the problem for me.

I've spent days debugging this issue...

But I never suspected fish to be the culprit. I've been using it as my default shell forever and it has functioned correctly until now. Couldn't even get any telemetry data at all... Crazy stuff.

Thank you. chsh to bash solved it for now. Looking for a permanent solution now that is more user-friendly...

Today i was able to get it running. I am typically using `fish` as my shell. I saw somewhere that it was not supported by west. So i changed my default shell to `bash` and things work fine now.

Could you specify what is it that you refer to as "things in the welcome screen"? Could you show what you see? Which action do you perform before you see "activating extensions ..."?
Could you please provide links to this issue that you saw several times on DevZone?
