I've been working with nRF52840-DK Boards for about 3 months and I'm setting up a OpenThread mesh. I implemented UDP, CoAP, Commissioning etc. and everything works just fine.
I already read something about the range of the devices here: And

RE: Disconnect even though devices in range

Hi,

Thanks for your answer.

Unfortunatly I am on vacation and won't be working until January. I will be trying your tips as soon as possible. I'll keep you updated!

Regards,

I will continue helping with this case.

To check if there is something wrong with the Thread network like this, can you set up a nRF Sniffer for 802.15.4 and send a sniffer trace of the issue?

Also, do you see the same for only 2 Thread devices, or is the range only shorter for many devices?

Were you able to test the range in open space? What was the results?
In this enviroment a few months ago we tested Bluetooth range with the same boards and achieved a higher distance.
How much greater?

RE: Disconnect even though devices in range

Hi,

I think it's a plaster wall. And it's really not thick so it should not be a too though obstacle.

I am testing my range with CoAP Packages: Every few seconds a device sends a Message to another device. If this Package reaches the other one, then this one sends an answer. Is the answer also successfully received, the device toggles a LED.

But I do not see a problem with my way of testing.

In this enviroment a few months ago we tested Bluetooth range with the same boards and achieved a higher distance. Could this be a problem with Thread then?

I wasn't able to test in open space yet because of the weather. But it is my plan to do so in the near future.

RE: Disconnect even though devices in range

Hi Vincent,

If they are in the same room then 8-10 meters sounds short, especially if the devices are in line of sight. However, for devices that are in different rooms with a wall between them this could be expected range. What kind of wall is it, and do you know the material of it?

Have you tested in a large open space with line of sight for comparison?

Best regards,
Marte
