I figured out the solution to autoreset the board once the new firmware has been flashed.

We have to enable the following flag in the prj.conf file of the dfu program : CONFIG_USB_DFU_REBOOT=y

Once this flag is set in the sample DFU program, any program that you now upload using dfu util will auto start once the firmware is written.

As the MCUboot swpas on the reset, the device must be reset.

However, you can use sys_reboot() from the application to reset the device.
