I am currently engaged in a project that involves the utilization of 2 LIR2450 Li-ion batteries. As I delve into the battery charging aspect of my project, I am keen to seek guidance on the suitability of the nPM1100

RE: Inquiry Regarding nPM1100 PMIC Suitability for Charging 2-cell Li-ion Batteries

Thank you for your guidance.

I'll look into implementing a low voltage cutout for the LIR2450 batteries and will contact the manufacturer for specific parameters. I'll also explore suitable protection circuitry for the parallel configuration of two LIR2450 cells.

Appreciate your help.

Best Regards,
Zaim

RE: Inquiry Regarding nPM1100 PMIC Suitability for Charging 2-cell Li-ion Batteries

The battery protection needs to concist of at least low voltage cutout. If the battery doesn't have that already, concider contating the battery manufacturer. They can advice what paramaters you need to be aware of.

RE: Inquiry Regarding nPM1100 PMIC Suitability for Charging 2-cell Li-ion Batteries

Thank you for your prompt and insightful response.

Considering the need for battery protection, could you please recommend a suitable external circuitry for implementing protection when using a single LIR2450 battery with the nPM1100 PMIC?

Additionally, for the scenario where two LIR2450 cells are connected in parallel and treated as one battery with double capacity, I would like to ensure proper protection. Could you provide guidance on the type of protection circuitry that should be employed in this configuration? I am particularly interested in any specific parameters or features that need to be taken into account for such a setup.

Thanks in advance.

RE: Inquiry Regarding nPM1100 PMIC Suitability for Charging 2-cell Li-ion Batteries

First, the nPM110 requires battery protection in the battery and LIR2450 cells doesn't have that. So you need external circuitry.

The batteries also needs to match in voltage with < 20 mV when you connect them together. If this is ok, you can just concider the two as one battery with double capacity. You should be able to find all the needed parameters, like charging current and termination voltage in the battery's datasheet.
