In the current datasheet (section 6.23), I could not find a description of what the offset auto-calibration actually does and what the precise timing is (trigger of task CALIBRATEOFFSET to CALIBRATEDONE event).
However, there are several documented

RE: Behaviour of offset auto-calibration (started by triggering CALIBRATEOFFSET task) of SAADC

No problem, can you closed this thread as verified Daniel?

RE: Behaviour of offset auto-calibration (started by triggering CALIBRATEOFFSET task) of SAADC

Thank you!

RE: Behaviour of offset auto-calibration (started by triggering CALIBRATEOFFSET task) of SAADC

Here is the description of the offset auto calibration.

The auto calibration coding uses the exact the same methodology as you mentioned here. The algorithm shorts the differential input signal pair before reading and getting subtracted from the result in the ADC to get the calibration value.

RE: Behaviour of offset auto-calibration (started by triggering CALIBRATEOFFSET task) of SAADC
My questions: Do I assume correctly that the offset auto-calibration of SAADC just does a conversion with the sampling capacitor internall shortened and subtracting that conversion result from subsequent conversions?
No, I do not think we can assume anything here. There are some internal resistors in SAADC, these resistors get normally connected during the SAADC sample only, These resistor string have a DC offsets written into them and that needs calibration..
[212] Events are not generated when switching from scan mode to no-scan mode with burst enabled
Not sure how this is connected to the calibration functionality?
In other words: Given I have a spare differential channel, does offset auto-calibration give me any benefit over measuring the differental voltage at a shorted differential input signal pair before each real acquitition of the differential input voltage at a different input signal pair?
This is a very good question. I do not know, I am asking/writing the Analog engineers and will come back to you when I have some insights from them.
