Do you have any issues with the out-of-box sta example, or it it's just his custom application?

What I mean is there is no log relating to any wifi error when the radio seems to get stuck

Regardless of which sample you are used, there are still no logs? Can you enter debug mode to see if the main() function even executes?

it is a custom application based off the sta example and i am running wifi with dhcp and using udp ports. it seems that some of the solder joints on a few boards need rework but I would still expect an error condition.

Some modules also go into this state and don't come out. The code also does not come back as disconnected so it seems that it is stuck somewhere in the wifi stack.

In looking at it it is every min for 7 seconds which is very odd.
