I assume your nRF9160 should act as a client, ie. connect to a server in this case. The public IP should not have any impact unless you're setting up an accepted IP range.

If you are setting up a cloud-service / server to accept a given IP range, you must ask your network provider for their IP-ranges.

Kind regards,

Thank you for the clarification.

The reason I need to know the IP address is for establishing communication between my nRF9160 board (user equipment) and other connected devices, such as IoT devices. While I understand that the IP address provided by the network is typically a NAT'ed address and may not be my public IP address, it's essential for configuring communication protocols like MQTT or sockets. Having a consistent IP address would simplify the configuration process and ensure stable communication between devices.

If there are alternative methods or best practices for achieving this goal without relying on the dynamically assigned IP address, I would greatly appreciate any guidance or suggestions you can provide.

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards,

Purushothaman

RE: How to get the ip address of the nrf9160dk board.

Hi,

This is the IP that the network assigns to the user equipment (UE), which is usually a NAT'ed address. This means that this is highly likely not your public IP address.

Can you elaborate on why you need to know the IP address?

Kind regards,
