This error looks not related to the board itself. Does this port already been opened by other terminal tools? Have you tried to open the Cellular Monitor App with Administrator access?

Modem trace needs to be enabled in the firmware building configuration, please refer to Modem trace.

Hi Charlie,

Currently, we just want to evaluate if nRF9160 is suited for our application, so we are using the board which we already have. But, Thank you for advise on switching to rev2.

Now, when I switched to MFW 1.3.6 and NCS 2.5.2. I get the following error. I don't get any modem traces even if I use the older modem firmware version1.2.8.

Hi Siddharth,

Thanks for checking with us for this issue.

First I would suggest you update your hardware to rev2 based DK since it will make huge difference. You can check the following pages from nRF9160 compatility matrix. Most of current MFW, NCS cellular samples are desgined and tested with nRF9160 rev2. It is even hard for me to find rev1 based DK to do test now. A simple change to the latest DK will help you avoid many issues and struggling for your study and development.

Back to your problem, you can switch back to MFW 1.3.6 and NCS 2.5.2 to test again.
I want you to collect log and modem trace from this test. They can help me to understand what is going wrong so we can still try to solve the problem based on your curret hardware setup.
