ok I should have read a bit better: "To swap Interface MCU FW, simply drag the Interface image (.bin) into the mounted bootloader drive on the connected computer and power cycle the board". That did the trick! Thank you monpetit!

thank you monpetit for your answer. No I haven't. Can you please help me to do it? In the nRF51DF user guide it says "download the latest SEGGER J-Link software from www.segger.com and open a debug session to update to the latest J-Link OB firmware version". I have the latest JLink software installed and I guess I need to use JFlash (V5.10d) but at this point I don't know what to do. Is there maybe a more detailed procedure?

Have you tried reinstalling the J-Link Interface MCU Firmware for on-board debugger?
