&lt;p&gt;As you can see in the &lt;a href="https://infocenter.nordicsemi.com/topic/ps_nrf9160/gpio.html?cp=2_1_0_5_3_4#unique_1131180181"&gt;nRF9160 Product Specification&lt;/a&gt;, the maximum input high voltage is VDD. Thus, this should be followed.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;I recommend that you have a look at &lt;a href="https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/nordic/nordic-blog/b/blog/posts/measuring-lithium-battery-voltage-with-nrf52"&gt;this blog post&lt;/a&gt; explaining how to perform voltage measurements with minimum leakage current.&lt;/p&gt;
