You were totally correct. Sorry to have missed that.

Turns out it was because I was getting the pop up notification to set up a device and then doing it that way.

One of the questions along the way was whether to use Google's app or another one and I always chose another one and then chose Smartthings app, but that doesn't seem to actually use the Smartthings app.

My specifically opening the Smartthings app and doing it that way it all works.

I cannot see anything wrong in the device log.

The screenshot looks to be from the Google Home app. Can you verify that you are using the Samsung Smartthings app when trying to add the device?

Attached is an image from my Android phone of the error. I also attached the complete log from starting the device on.

You will see that right after the first boot I held the button 1 on the DK as instructed to trigger the Matter factory reset. I still got the error.

My Phone and hub are both connected to the same network. One via eithernet and the other via wifi to the same router. They are both on the same subnet (192.168.50.x).

I have noticed some behavior like this. I never scientifically went through combinations, but it usually went the way of :
- Reset the device using button 1 (assuming your example is the same behavior as the nrf52 version, I can't see why it wouldn't)
- Reset the HUB to full factory defaults- making sure that (in my case) the app can recognize the device. ALSO I have seen that if I was logged out of the Samsung account , it didn't want to add the devices.
- some failure in my compilation that resulted in my devices crashing while booting, but this was usually due to our custom device not being correctly compiled for NO 32Khz operation. Zepher/Matter Demos doesn't like trying to use the 32khz crystal when it doesn't exist .... who knew?

Other problems were things like my phone connecting to the company wifi instead of the local network router I created for testing Matter, hence why I said to make sure your devices were connected to the correct networks.

It is very weird that it worked before and now won't after completely clearing all devices and starting over.

I am going to add some things. I have successfully added devices using the nrf52840 DK example boards and the v2.6.0 version of nrf Connect Toolchain.
I am using this model

I see that this worked before so look into some of these potential issues:
- Is your commissioning device and the smartthings station on the same wifi network?
- have you tried holding down the "reset device" button on the DK board until all LEDs blink multiple times?

Also do you have the serial terminal up from the nrf53 board? It should spout debug output about the state of the device. You might want to see if there is crash output from this.
Watching the serial output from power on to commissioning can be helpful.

Sorry I wasn't clear in my original post.

I did have this all working before, but started over.

The first thing I did was factory reset the Smartthings hub. I had also removed it from my Samsung account and phone. Basically starting from scratch on everything.

I totally erased the Nordic DK and built and flashed the light_bulb example without changes.

This is the state I am in now.

What logs to you want?

Have you removed the device from the hub or tried factory resetting the hub?

I have tried the methods in that article.

Like I said in the original post of the issue, this used to work just last month. I am getting back to working on it.

I have no idea what might have changed. I am building the exact same code that worked before without changes that I know of.

Which Smartthings hub are you using?

Have you tried the following guide Matter: Testing the nRF Connect platform with Apple, Google and Samsung ecosystems ? It explains how to commission Matter devices to commercial ecosystems such as Samsung.
