Another workaround is to disable a specific AppArmor restriction by running this once:

echo 'kernel.apparmor_restrict_unprivileged_userns = 0' | sudo tee -a /etc/sysctl.conf
sudo sysctl -p

This setting is now permanently written to /etc/sysctl.conf so it stays between reboots.

Hi John,

I faced the same issue with Ubuntu 24.04 with other tools such as CLion and Pycharm.

The steps that I followed to resolve this are:

cd /etc/apparmor.d

abi <abi/4.0>,
include <tunables/global>

profile nrf-connect-desktop /home/user/NordicTools/nrfconnect-5.0.0-x86_64.appimage flags=(unconfined) {
  userns,

  include if exists <local/chrome>
}

sudo service apparmor reload

We do not support Ubuntu 24.04 yet.

For now, I suggest that you use the workaround you described

Downloaded nrfconnect-4.4.1-x86_64.appimage and chmod 0755.

Somehow the filename was changed to nrfconnect361x8664.AppImage. The contents are identical.
