You are right that this is quite outdated. It might still give valid results, but I would recommend testing this with a more updated version.

We have the throughput sample in NCS;

Which you can use it to determine the maximum throughput, or to experiment with different connection parameters and check their impact on the throughput.
This is meant to be used to test between two development kits. I haven't tested using this between phone -> development kit, but you could use it as a template.

Other than that, I don't think we have an out of the box sample to test the throughput to the mobil device.
