I don't know why it worked with the nRF9160.

But yes, it will work with CP_APPLICATION on the nRF9160 as well.

Alright, that seemed to do the trick. Why is this different to nRF9160, where I'm programming with CP_MODEM, and can I use CP_APPLICATION to update the modem FW on both nRF9161 and nRF9160?

I had another look at your function in the issue. Could you try to change the coprocessor from CP_MODEM to CP_APPLICATION?

The debug port on the modem core is locked. So you are technically writing to the application core, and doing a DFU of the modem core from there.

I can program the board with the Programmer app and VS Code extension just fine, no problems there. It's just the pynrfprog that doesn't work. I don't need to recover the board or do any tricks after it fails.
