Hi everybody.
Today I had the same issue that nstohs . Months ago I had an old version of nRF Connect, uninstalled and I needed to re-install .
After trying several versions (5.0.2, 5.0.0, 4.4.1) without success, I managed to install version 4.0.1 and have it running. I tried to update from within the App to 5.0.2, but the application restarted the "TypeError" issue over again.

I then installed version 4.1.1 and updated to 5.0.2 from within the App, and nRF Connect magically started without problems after the update.

I really have no idea what the issue was, but maybe this information could be useful to someone else experiencing the issue or to developers...

@Nathan Stohs, I recommend creating a new thread detailing all the versions of your environment and setup. This thread was created by another user and hasn't received a response, presumably because their issue has been resolved. You can reference this thread in your new ticket. The issue mentioned in this thread has been reported internally with all details shared in the parent question.

Have you successfully installed the nRF Connect for Desktop, or are you facing any issues? Installing the nRF Connect for Desktop will provide you with the nrf-device-lib-driver.

No luck. nrf-device-lib silently fails (as before) and Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable was already installed. I tried both the repair option and re-install. Same issue.

Hi,

Can you try to install all the dependencies for nrfutil and see if that helps? (nrfutil is used behind the scenes by nRF Connect for Desktop).

I also have this issue. I previously had the nRF connect installed, uninstalled at some point, and now on re-install I cannot install this or the previous version. I'm on Windows 10. I've tried to uninstall and reinstall to no effect.

Installing nrf device lib manually will silently fail. No output when invoking from the command line either.

Can you try to uninstall and reinstall? Does the issue stil occur?
