I would like to continue to use the existing USB bootloader .hex file for updates via CDC_ACM. One thing I am confused about... Where / how does the existing USB bootloader setup the power supplies?

DCDCEN1 is the only thing that could put a custom board with no DCDC components in a broken state, where it would be very hard to enable

It can be disabled and still built for the dongle.

Its always best to build for the board you are using.

Regards,
Jonathan

RE: PCA10059 Bootloader voltage regulator config

A little more than that...

Program existing .HEX files built for the 52840dongle onto the custom board.

From the various things I posted above that means

1) Bootloader does not enable DCDCEN0/DCDCEN1

2) Applications built for the 52840dongle DO enable DCDCEN0/DCDCEN1

RE: PCA10059 Bootloader voltage regulator config

Your plan is to create a custom PCB based on the Config 5 and use the bootloader as it works on the nRF52840 dongle ?

Regards,
Jonathan

RE: PCA10059 Bootloader voltage regulator config

Sorry, I would also like to add one more question about this...

The datasheet says

and

So, if our config ties VDD/VDDH together, the system automatically enters Normal Voltage mode and REG0 is automatically disabled. Does that mean it is okay to use existing dongle firmware that sets the DCDCEN0 to enabled since that stage has been automatically disabled?
