We were using the nRF54L15 PDK V0.2.1. But after the update of the extension "nRF Connect for VS Code" to V2024.7.18 (pre-release), we are not able anymore to debug.
The following error occurs: Debugging on nRF54 is available only with Hardware

RE: Debugging with nRF54L PDK not possible

Hi

v2.7.0 was released today, and it includes support for the nRF54L.

Thank you for the workaround. So, we will roll back the extension.

You said that the SDK will soon be tagged with the final release tag. Does that mean that the v2.7.0 tag then also supports the nRF54L? Or should we remain on v2.66.99-cs1?

Best regards

RE: Debugging with nRF54L PDK not possible

Hi Remo,

Thank you for the clarification. I was not aware that the regular release did not support debugging for the nRF54L. I'm checking internally to determine the best path forward. The SDK will soon be tagged with the final release tag (v2.7.0).

Best regards,

Vidar

Update: A workaround for now is to roll back to the previous pre-release the extension. You can download prior versions of the extension at https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=nordic-semiconductor.nrf-connect and then install it manually (see Install from a VSIX).

RE: Debugging with nRF54L PDK not possible

Hi

Thanks for your fast answer.

We are working with the nRF54L15. And according to two e-mails from Nordic, one should use the NCS v2.6.99-cs1 and the Pre-Release version of the VS Code extension due to a debugging issue. Therefore, we cannot use the release version of the extension.

How can we fix this issue? Have the necessary changes on the HW Model V2 also been made on v2.6.99-cs1?

Best regards

Remo

RE: Debugging with nRF54L PDK not possible

Hi,

The issue is not related to the board revision, but rather that the pre-release of the VS code extension includes several changes to support Hardware Model V2 which are not necessary backwards compatible with the old HW model. I would only recommend using the pre-release version if you are working with the v2.7.0* tags that introduced Hw model 2. For older SDK releases, it should be better to work with regular version. The Vs code extension should eventually support both.

Best regards,
