However, since I need a large number of GPIOs, I do not want to use the optional 32khz crystal in my circuit. But I also want to have WDT in my circuit.

&lt;p&gt;Yes. from the &lt;a href="https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/ps_nrf52832/page/wdt.html"&gt;documentation &lt;/a&gt;on the watchdog:&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;When started, the watchdog will automatically force the 32.768 kHz RC oscillator on as long as no other 32.768 kHz clock source is running and generating the 32.768 kHz system clock, see chapter&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href="https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/ps_nrf52832/page/clock.html#frontpage_clock"&gt;CLOCK — Clock control&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
