sorry, I never use nrf connect for desktop, I have no idea. Suggest read though Nordic documents carefully, frankly speaking, Nordic documents are very detail and wide.

Yes, but can I flash an application including bootloader with the programmer from nrf connect for desktop on a nrf52840 dongle ?

DFU bootloader is used to upgrade rom for end product mainly.

But during developing, better without bootloader.

But what is the purpose of sdfubootloader if I can't use it ?

May be have to do application without bootloader ?

yes, you can programm it, even you can erase bootloader, flash your programm directly into dongle, as long as your programm working properly.

So I have a nrf52840 dongle, a project with build for it but I can't programm it ?

Believe vscode with nrf connect sdk, right? frankly speaking, I am out of date guy, I still working with SDK17.1.0. Sorry, no more suggestions.

But with nrfutil I can't programm a .hex file including application and mcuboot do I ?

About nrfutil, how do I install nrf-device-lib ?

I've been able to download the .exe. I clicked on it and it seems to have install it, but when I type the command nrfutil device list --traits nordicDfu I have an error "device is not recognized"

hi, I do not know the real story, but I could give some clues.

if using Keil, you could go to "options for target"->"asm", then as below you will find version number.

If using makefile and vscode, you will find version number in makefile, like below:

suggesting to use nrfutil and nrfjprog to flash rom.
