libffi.so.7 is shipped with the toolchain, but it is not found because it is not in LD_LIBARAY_PATH.

I added a symlink:

 ln ~/ncs/toolchains/e9dba88316/opt/nanopb/generator-bin/libffi.so.7 ~/ncs/toolchains/e9dba88316/usr/local/lib

That is nice to know. I hope soon will work with libffi.so.8 as well. I am using UBUNTU 24 LTS for all the projects now. Meanwhile your suggestion will solve the problem.

also west debug doesnt work because pylink wants libffi.so.7 but the OS provides libffi.so.8. I installed libffi7 package from previous version of ubuntu, and then west debug worked.

Considering the major changes in what is supported in NCS 2.7 (the 54 series for instance) we unfortunately haven't gotten VSC to support all of them. Due to this, there are some limitations as to what you can do in VSC for 2.7. I think that is mainly related to dts changes using the GUI. For more info, see here.

Yes it works now on Ubuntu 24 using your suggestion on

1.Download it manually......

Still on VS my second line is different than yours but may be something on configuration?

Anyway I can work now on any Ubuntu.
That solves the problem and hope helps others too.

There is no libunistring2 on Ubuntu 24.

You can:

1. Download it manually, see answer at the bottom of devzone.nordicsemi.com/.../error-installing-nrf-connect-sdk-in-vscode-linux-libunistring-so-2-cannot-open-shared-object-file-no-such-file-or-directory

2. Create a symlink libunistring2->libunistring5 which probably works but is bad way because those libs have different apis.

3. Wait for new tool manager which uses libunistring5.

Today I managed to install SDK v2.7 on Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS.
I think the problem was an unseen popped window to give admin pass.
After that everything went smoothly.
Later in the afternoon I will try it in Ubuntu 24 LTS in my home laptop.
I see that 2.7.0 tool-chain is experimental in VS. Is that a problem?

I meant the other way around: there should be no ncs folder selected. Otherwise I believe it find one you have there and assume you just want to stick to that.

I've tried installing it using toolchain manager on an Ubuntu 22 atleast now, with toolchain manager v1.5.1, and that worked fine. Could you try downloading the latest version of nRF Connect for Desktop in case you do not have that?

Even when you do not have an SDK selected in the explorer view? Try for instance opening a folder outside of NCS, or selecting the NCS folder, right click on it, and select "remove folder from workspace". Does that change anything regarding whether or not the Manage SDK option is visible?

If that doesn't help, could you try generating support info for me?

My second line in VS code is "Manage west workspace"

VSC Version: 1.92.1

Until ver 2.6.0 everything went fine.

Am I doing something wrong?

2.6.0 opens fine

I'll try it myself on an Ubuntu 22 later today.

Could you try installing it using the VSC extension as well? You can do this by pressing the manage SDKs button while you have no SDK version currently selected in your file explorer. If you for instance have an NCS workspace selected this option might be grayed out.

Yes it is odd and to make things worse The problem exists when installing on Ubuntu 20.04.6 LTS

On both Ubuntu versions th SDK 2.6.0 installed without a problem (and versions before 2.6.0 too)

No I am not using a VPN. I did the same procedure as i did for previews versions.

If I am the only person having that problem the solution must be in frond of our eyes I think.
I think the problem starts when unpacking the tool-chain and starts initializing.

This may help. The tool chain manager is v1.5.1 . May be in the past some months ago when updated to 2.6 I did so with older tool-chain manager.

Hello,

That is odd. There are reasons why this might be problematic (ubuntu 24 is for instance not among the officially supported OSes), but I am surprised that it should fail when cloning something from github.

Are you using a VPN/Tor or anything like that?
