You can try older versions here ->https://github.com/nordicSemiconductor/pc-nrfutil/releases which is legacy solution

If performance issues persist, consider running nrfutil under Rosetta 2, which emulates an Intel environment on Apple Silicon Macs.

Install Rosetta 2: If not already installed, run:

softwareupdate --install-rosetta
Run Terminal in Rosetta Mode:
- Locate the Terminal application in Finder.
- Right-click and select "Get Info."
- Check the box labeled "Open using Rosetta."
- Open Terminal; it will now operate in Rosetta mode.
Reinstall nrfutil: In the Rosetta-enabled Terminal, reinstall nrfutil as previously described

Hi, This is getting out of hand. Is there any way we can use an older nrfutil that doesn't have this bug? How do I install older versions of this tool?

Ok, as we still develop 100% of all our nrf52 (22,32, 33 40) in the old sdk and within the next frew years won't switch, is there any way we can get hold of the source code for this to fix it ourself? This bug means 24 seconds extra every build (once for settings once for generating the zip) when we debug.

Sorry for confusing you as it was confusing for me as well I have now got a very clear answer from the dev team.

nrfutil pkg is related to our legacy DFU solution for the deprecated nRF5 SDK. That is, nrfutil pkg development is stopped. So we will not prioritize or support any issues in this. I can still create an internal ticket as this is infact a bug, but I cannot promise if this will be fixed anytime soon, if they fix it all.

Sorry Hjalmar, I was testing it on MacOS12 version and got stuck to this version in my head. Forgot that you are using MacOS 13 and it is very likely that this issue is there on that as well.

OK, this is a bug that we need to investigate, but we do not have resources to do that right away. I will create an internal ticket to the team to fix this.

Yes, but as I've written I use mac OS 13, and that one according to your list is tier 1.
Tier 1: The tools will always work. The automated build and automated testing ensure that the tools build and successfully complete tests after each change.

The team do not have the capacity (with time or resources) to test this at the moment. No clear timelines are available when this will be tested and fixed. And according to NCS about OS support: https://docs.nordicsemi.com/bundle/nrf-connect-desktop/page/os_support.html MacOS 12 is Tier 3 "Tier 3: The tools are supported by design, but are not built or tested after each change. Therefore, the application may or may not work.

I have now tested two laptops (MacBook Air) Intel core, IOS version 12.7.6

Replicated the delay issue. Will pass this to the dev team. This seems like a bug.

What do you mean running off memory stick? the OS? No, we are running this on 6 month old M2 mac studios. You don't need an old mac to replicate this!

Do you mean that you have a mac, where you can do : "time nrfutil pkg" and it takes sub 9 seconds?

I have now tested 6 different macs, and only one intel mac with an old nrfutil is quicker than that.

Also, the delay is even if the program isn't even feed with arguments, I've clearly explained above.
The "nrfutil pgk" will only display it's help, why does that take 15 seconds?

We still do not know why this is so slow. Are you running this on memory stick? Can't seem to understand what can make it this slow. I have some older Mac laptops which I will use to reproduce this issue next week.

Hi, tried this on two other mac Ms here (one M1 and another M2) and both show the same symptoms, my Intel mac doesn't have this issue. Do you test on arm M cores as well?

Is there any way I can get more logs out of this to try to pin point it?

If there is no antivirus or any admin rule on your Macbook to scan every file/script that runs, and you have the latest, then we do not know what the issue is. We test these packages on Mac and have not seen this ourselves.I am out of ideas here.

Thanks, did that, but that did only help partially, it dropped by 30% to 10.5 seconds instead.

Yes you need to have nRF Util installed on your system to run these commands (which you have).but if not, you haven't installed it yet, you can download it from the nRF Util product page and follow the installation instructions provided in the nRF Util documentation.

You can upgrade the nRF Util core module and its commands from the command line using the following steps:

To upgrade the nRF Util core module, run the following command:

nrfutil self-upgrade

This command will update the nRF Util core module to the latest version.

To view the commands with available updates, run the following command:

nrfutil list --outdated

This command will list all the commands that have updates available.

To upgrade the commands, run the following command:

nrfutil upgrade

This command will update all the commands to their latest versions.

I overlooked your version. Your version in the initial thread says that you are using nrfutilv7.5.0 but based on the documentation here , there seems to be a new build for nrfutil that is built for MacOsV13 at nrfutilv7.7

Please upgrade your tool latest and test.

Maybe I can try to replicate it here. 15 seconds of delay sounds like this tool is practically useless. We have not seen this before so need to replicate that first to be able to debug.

Hjalmar, Is there any antivirus running on the Mac? It looks like there is nothing in the nrfutil itself that should cause this delay unless something on MacOS is investigating every files and scripts running.
