No, the devacademy sample will be updated to use a shorter certificate. The limit will still be the same.

Hi. I'm not sure I understand the answer. Are you saying that the 4Kb server certificate limit in the modem firmware is a permanent limit that will not be changed? Or are you saying that there is a devacademy sample that uses a modem firmware without this limit?

There will be a fix, but it is in one of the devacademy samples, which I assume is not relevant to you. But you can try to implement the same fix by using a shorter self signed certificate instead of the long certificate you are using now.

Thank you. How can I keep myself updated on the status of the bug? I need to be able to load this certificate quite urgently and if it's not possible I need to start making alternative plans soon.

I realize that my problem is very similar to nRF9160-DK Certificate provision error and modem crash - Cellular IoT Fundamentals : Lesson 4 Exercise 2 - Nordic Q&A - Nordic DevZone - Nordic DevZone (nordicsemi.com) and that there is a limitation note to the modem firmware v1.3.6 here: nsscprodmedia.blob.core.windows.net/prod/software-and-other-downloads/dev-kits/nrf9160-dk/release_notes_modemfirmware/mfw_nrf9160_1.3.6_release_notes.txt that states: "Maximum server certificate chain size has a limit of 4kB.". Mine is 7Kb but works on the first boot? Anyway. Does anyone have any ideas about how to work around this problem?
