That would lead to an inefficient system, as it would result in power loss. Additionally, since you need the battery to power the system, this approach wouldn't be ideal.

Hi, Tom.

As Parth is saying, the nPM1300 PS states that the nPM1300 has a configurable charge current from 32 mA to 800 mA. Thus, it doesn't support a charge current as low as 8 mA. The nPM1100 supports charging currents down to 20 mA.

The minimum charge current for nPM1300 is 32mA so charging at 8mA wont be possible from it.
