What is your J-Link verison?

Make sure your nRF Command Line Tools, nRF Connect for Desktop application etc. are up-to-date.

Is your DK being detected by your PC's device manager? What about Programmer? Is you DK being recognized properly there?

When you connect you nRF52840DK and go to the Programmer app within the nRF Connect for Desktop, and then select you DK from the dropdown menu on the top left corner, do you get any prompts to re-program with new firmware? If so, please do this.

Which version of the DK are you working with?

Also, make sure your nRF Command Line Tools are up-to-date.
