&lt;p&gt;What exactly are you trying to program onto the board here. I&amp;#39;m assuming it setts the APPROTECT enable. My colleague Vidar explains in great detail in &lt;a href="https://devzone.nordicsemi.com/f/nordic-q-a/92226/nrf52833-custom-board-halts-when-jlink-is-connected"&gt;this ticket &lt;/a&gt;how to make sure APPROTECT is disabled on your board.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;To get it in an unprotected state in the first place, start by doing an nrfjprog --recover to recover the device into an &amp;quot;open state&amp;quot;.&lt;/p&gt;
