Enabling the HWFC toggle switches fixed the issue for me. Thanks for the help!

Can you open the board configurator app in nRF Connect for Desktop and select those in yellow (click Write to apply):

Then it seems to work here (though I did also push once on the RESET button on the DK):

I think the problem is that the hello world require flow control.

In the meantime you can also try follow the nRF Connect SDK v2.8.0:
https://academy.nordicsemi.com/courses/nrf-connect-sdk-fundamentals/

For instance try to compile and program the hello world directly from there.

I also just tried this on a Windows 10 PC and I see the same failure as on my Mac. On the Windows PC, I'm also running the latest nRF Connect for Desktop v5.1.0.

I have also tried running "nrfutil device recover" (which completes successfuly).

I also was able to connect to the device in the Board Configurator. I clicked the "Load default config" and then "Write config" to make sure the default config was loaded on the board.

After performing both of these steps, the Quick Start still fails with the same error.

FYI, I'm on a Macbook Pro with macOS Sequoia 15.1 (Apple Silicon).
