&lt;p&gt;You are not writing which example you are using and which version of nRF Connect SDK you are using.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;But in general if you are using an nRF52840-DK, and power the DK using the IMCU USB connector, then I believe you should be able to plug in and out the nRF USB connector without reset.&lt;/p&gt;
