In general our/Zephyrs Github repos are checked thoroughly every release and should be clean. Most of us at Nordic has an instance of NCS 2.9.0 installed at this point and have this file downloaded and installed at least if that helps you.

Implied but not stated explicitly is that the file is *not* infected with the Win64:Evo-gen[Trj] malware. Can developers in Windows environments be confident that the GitHub Windows repo is clean?

So, this file has been reported to VirusTotal, but there's not anything else we can do from our side I'm afraid. I've reported it as an issue in the Zephyr Github now, and you can follow the progress here: https://github.com/zephyrproject-rtos/sdk-ng/issues/856

Hi Simon,

Downloaded the toolchain element. Then waited. Norton did not trigger.

Then I unzipped the downloaded zip file. After a few minutes Norton triggered on the file in the bin directory.

Specifically it triggered on the riscv64-zephyr-elf-cpp.exe file. Claims it is infected with Win64:Evo-gen[Trj].

I have several projects in play. Most are anchored off of the NCS V2.6.1 SDK and V2.7.0 toolchain. The most recent project is anchored off of NCS V2.8.0 toolchain but moved to NCS 2.9.0 to match the SDK, thus right now the configuration is set to V2.8.0 toolchain but V2.9.0 is the desired one.

Without the CPP file one can't compile with V2.9.0

Does Norton trigger when downloading/unzipping the file directly as well?

Can you try generating support information in the VS Code extension so we can confirm that your system is correctly set up here. It's likely a conflict with Norton that needs to be sorted. We are currently looking into this internally. I'll update this ticket when I get a status update.

Having the same issue with Windows 11 and a clean install. Only happens with V2.9.0.

Happens with either VSCode nRFConnect install or command line install

OS and AV are all up to date.

Solution please?

Hi,

How are you installing the SDK and the toolchain? From the VS Code using nRF Connect extension?

If this file is installed using recommended methods, then there should be no problem with files. It could be a false flag from your antivirus.

You may upgrade your operating system as well.
I will report the issue to the NCS team nonetheless.

This file would be required for 54 devices.
